I don't use CNC machines, but I use flood coolant on my big lathe and on my horizontal band saw. I hate water soluble coolant for just this reason. I use cutting oil on my big lathe and it is expensive, but I never have the smell thing. However, cutting oil is hygroscopic and it gets sludged up because of water contamination. We have several machines with large sumps (50 gal. to 150 gal.) that are usualy O.K. but sometimes it's like someone put in a cup of laundry detergent. What causes this? Our coolant is Premier Polycut. Fresh coolant always is more prone to foaming. Some of your problem will go away with a little use. There are de-foaming agents that you can use but there is a downside to these in that they often will cause some level of air entrainment. This is usually tolerable but will result in an apparent coolant swelling in the tank.
I'm one that believes in NEVER adding extra stuff to coolant, bleach, soaps, and if a coolant company even sells and anti-stink additive, I won't use it.. But. H2O2. Its just an extra oxygen.. And what does oxygen do, it makes stuff rot quicker (like the dead mouse you are going to find at the bottom of your sump)
